Practice: Adult Rescue Breathing
My scene is safe. My gloves are on. My rescue mask with a one-way valve is available. Sir, can you hear me? Sir, are you okay? There's no response. You in the plaid shirt, go call 9-1-1 and come back. Bring an AED with you if you can find one. Or call a code. They're not breathing normally, I'm going to check a pulse. 10 seconds or less. This patient has a pulse but is not breathing. Begin rescue breathing. One one thousand, two one thousand, three one thousand, four one thousand, five one thousand. One one thousand, two one thousand, three one thousand, four one thousand, five one thousand. One one thousand, two one thousand, three one thousand, four one thousand, five one thousand. Now I'm going to do this for two minutes, at which point I'm going to reassess for a pulse. 10 seconds or less. The pulse is still present but there's no normal breathing. I'm going to continue rescue breathing. One one thousand, two one thousand, three one thousand, four one thousand, five one thousand. One one thousand, two one thousand, three one thousand, four one thousand, five one thousand. And I'm going to reassess again in two minutes.
Learn how to perform rescue breathing on an unconscious adult who is not breathing by watching the procedure performed on a mannequin.
