Practice: Unconscious Child Choking
The conscious choking child is now gone unconscious. My gloves are on, my CPR shield is available with a one way valve, a rescue mask in this case. As soon as they go unresponsive, I have not called 911 already, I am gonna go send somebody. You in the plaid shirt, go call 911 and come back I might need your help, and if you have an AED bring it back with you or I am gonna call a code right into chest compressions. One, two, three, four, five, and six, and seven, and eight, and nine, and ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty, twenty one, twenty two, twenty three, twenty four, twenty five, twenty six, twenty seven, twenty eight, twenty nine, thirty. Look at the mouth, I don't see anything, try a breath, nothing went in, re-position the head, nothing goes in, more compressions, 30 more times, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty, twenty one, twenty two, twenty three, twenty four, twenty five, twenty six, twenty seven, twenty eight, twenty nine, thirty, and then I look in the mouth and if i see an object and then I sweep it out, and attempt to breath. Breath went in, so I'm gonna give another one. Now I am gonna check for a crowded pulse for no more than 10 seconds, if there is a pulse but no breathing, I am gonna gibe rescue breaths once every three seconds, for two minutes, reassess pulse after two minutes, if there is no pulse no breathing, begin full CPR, and I'm gonna continue this until help arrives, or an AED arrives, or my patient responds and revives.
