Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of healthcare providers involved in the care of patients in cardiac arrest.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
  • Identify the signs and symptoms of a heart attack, stroke, or opioid overdose and explain how to provide the proper care.
  • Describe the scene survey and primary assessment steps for adults, children, and infants.
  • Recite rescue breathing skills for adults, children, and infants who are in respiratory arrest.
  • Recall skills for removing a foreign body airway obstruction for conscious and unconscious victims.
  • Identify BLS treatments for one or two-person CPR for patients of varying ages.
  • Explain the requirements for achieving high-quality CPR.
  • Discuss the proper use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) for adults, children, and infants.
